Andean week in Huaraz

The international festival of Andean sports takes place in the Huaylas valley and surrounding mountains every June. Many people from all over the world come to participate in the sporting competitions making it a week full of energy, parties and fair play.

One of the most popular events is ski which takes place at Pastoruri and Punta Olimpica. More than 2000 people take part in this international competition which requires all competitors to walk up to the peak to begin before being judged on style and overall time for their descent.

The mountain bike event in the Huaraz and Monterrey mountains is also popular. If you wish to participate in any of the events you should arrive in plenty of time to acclimatize as the festival takes place at 3000 meters above sea level.

Other events include rock climbing on Monterrey, kayaking on the Santa River near Carhuaz and abseiling in the Cordillera Blanca. Apart from the main competitions there is the chance to practice all of the sports at your own pace in locations near Huaraz and Carhuaz.
