High Mountain Llama Trek
Distance: 90 kms.
Maximum altitude: 4,600 meters
Duration: 2 days / 1 night
Departure: 7:30 a.m.
We began offering the llama trek in Ayacucho in 2002 and since then it has proved very popular with our visitors. It is a new adventure circuit, perfect for llama treks, and one of the few of its kind in Peru.
We travel from Ayacucho to the Rosas Pampa community where our llamas and the rest of the team await us. We begin the hike up to 4,200 meters with the llamas carrying all of the heavy items; the most you will have to carry is water and your camera. The ascent takes around four hours, horses are taken along with us in case of emergency. During the first hour we do not ascend very much but this soon changes as we start the ascent up Ingawasi Ccasa Mountain at the top of which we cross the pass at around 4,600 meters. At this point we make a small offering to the Apus (mountain spirits) of the zone. We then descend to the village of Churiacc and Japani where we visit a small school with a wooden floor. Lunch. In the afternoon we visit the local people and take part in cultural interchange. We will also witness llamas being sheared in traditional style. Dinner. Campfire.
8:00 a.m. Breakfast
9:00 a.m. We take a four hour walk around the surrounding area visiting the alpaca farms and land; over 20,000 alpacas and llamas inhabit the zone.
Lunch. We leave the camp and travel to the Ninobamba hot springs where we can take a dip in the medicinal baths, rich in minerals and very warm (40 degrees centigrade)
